We have found from experience on projects from nurseries to universities that the quality of the built environment infrastructure plays a crucial role in creating a successful learning environment for students.  There is a strong body of evidence to support the view that high quality educational infrastructure facilitates better instruction, with improved student outcomes, and reduced dropout rates.

Why sustainability matters in our education built environment

We believe in supporting the design of high-quality sustainable buildings as it has a positive impact upon the learning environment and our communities.  Buildings have a significant impact upon carbon emissions accounting for 35% of total global energy consumption.

We support the adoption of Passivhaus in our education projects as a tried and tested solution to the delivery of net zero ready and an environment that provides high levels of occupant comfort whilst at the same time using limited energy consumption to heat and cool buildings.  The Passivhaus standard is not just a world leading energy efficiency and thermal performance standard, there are several other benefits, such as low energy bills, superior internal comfort, constant fresh air, peaceful and quiet interiors.

We have extensive experience in the field of Passivhaus design advising on low energy retrofits and new buildings.  Our approach is to embrace a partnering ethos consulting with all the stakeholders from the outset, with an approach that is agile, responsive to change reflecting advances in technology, infrastructure and built form. Pursuing a whole team approach and seeking to understand the client’s objectives is at the heart of our drive to achieve successful outcomes.

We advocate for improvements in infrastructure encouraging design principles that have a positive impact upon learning through interrelated factors

These include naturalness, highlighting the need for good light and air quality, stimulation, emphasizing the need for complexity and colour and individualization, highlighting the need for flexibility of the learning space.

We believe in creating the right environment for learning and with our wealth of experience and knowledge in this field we are well placed to provide our clients with the right strategic advice for their education needs and programmes.
